Many couples strive unsuccessfully to have children and between 10 and 15% of all couples are involuntarily childless. In about one third of all cases the cause lies with the male. If you have your sperm analysed it can be determined if your Sperm Quality is normal of if it is low. If it is low, this may simply mean that you and your partner need assistance to become parents.
How to get started
Contact Cryos to schedule an appointment. You will be asked to fill out a form, which you can also download here. When the form has been filled out and signed you need to make a sperm sample. Our staff will show you our private donor rooms with magazines and guide you through the process.
Cryos requires males seeking a sperm analysis to obtain a prescription and/or referral from your doctor. This prescription and/or referral from your doctor just needs to state that you are to have a sperm analysis performed. Cryos requires that appointments to be made with at least 1-day notice.
An abstinence period of 2-3 days prior to collecting the sperm is recommended. The penis should be washed with water, without the use of soap, prior to ejaculation. The semen must be ejaculated directly into the collection container. The best quality of sperm is in the first few drops so spilling should be avoided. Condoms must not be used to collect sperm due to the content of spermicide. Collection of sperm via withdrawal during sexual intercourse is not recommended due to the risk of spilling the sperm. Name and personal identification number must be written on the label on the container.
Sperm samples can also be made at home if the sample is handed in our office within one hour of collection. Sperm collection containers are available from Cryos. The sperm must be kept at room temperature (68-86°F) until it is handed in.
