Specimen Type (ICI vs. IUI)
Cryos NY produces two (2) types of specimens for use in artificial inseminations: ICI and IUI-Ready.
- ICI - ICI specimens are "unwashed" samples. Unwashed means that the samples are similar to a "raw" ejaculate and contain the natural nutrients, proteins, sperm cells, etc. Unwashed samples are similar to the deposit made during intercourse. ICI specimens can be used for any type of artificial insemination however will have to be washed prior to an IUI treatment or Invitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment. Most fertility doctors and/or clinics can wash specimens prior to treatments. Cryos NY recommends speaking with your fertility doctor and/or clinic to determine if you can purchase unwashed samples.
- IUI-Ready - IUI-Ready samples are "washed". Washed means that Cryos NY's laboratory is simply putting the ejaculate through a filter to remove all unnecessary contents creating specimens with a high concentration of motile sperm. IUI-Ready specimens can be used for any type of artificial insemination. Cryos NY recommends speaking with your fertility doctor and/or clinic to determine if you should purchase IUI-Ready samlpes.
