If you are interested in searching for a reputable fertility clinic, you may contact the Cryos NY office at +1(212) 430-5950, conduct a online search via Google, Yahoo!, etc. or visit World In Vitro Fertilisaton Unit. - Which information about the donor is available?
Cryos NY understands the importance of providing quality information about its donors from medical, physical and psychological viewpoints. Additionally, the company understands the large financial commitment involved with artificial inseminations and therefore does not charge for additional donor information. Clients may access via the Cryos NY donor search on its website Extended Donor Profiles, Staff Impressions, and Baby Photos of its American donors. There are a few Danish donors that are available for sale within the United States that do not have any additional donor information.
Extended Donor Profiles are required forms completed by all Cryos NY donors that provide clients with more detailed information such as interests, personalities, education levels achieved, family-trees, and medical histories (if applicable). Most of these Extended Donor Profiles provide a hand-written note from the donor explaining his motivation for donating.
Staff Impressions are documents written about each specific donor by a staff member of Cryos NY. These Staff Impressions offer clients another view of the donor from a different perspective.
Baby Photos are photos of the donors ranging from ages 3-6 months to 5-6 years. In some cases, Cryos NY will have adult photos of Non-Anonymous Donors (please see below for definition).
If you are interested in finding out more information on the donors, please do not hesitate to contact a Cryos NY Sales Associate at +1(212) 430-5950.
All donors at the time of entering the company's donor program are required to complete a Donor Agreement. This agreement is the standard agreement informing the donor of his responsibilities as a sperm donor. Every donor relinquishes his paternal rights for children born of his specimens. Additionally, at this time donors decide whether they will be an Anonymous or Non-Anonymous (Open Identity) donor.
Anonymous Donors are donors that decide to have their personal information restricted to Cryos personnel only and never to be disclosed to a third party.
Non-Anonymous Donors (Open Identity) are donors that decide to have their personal information disclosed to children born of their specimens when that child reaches the age of 18 years. The decision to choose an Anonymous Donor or a Non-Anonymous Donor is a very difficult decision to make. The decision is to be made by the parents-to-be and Cryos NY will in no way try to influence the decision. Please keep in mind that various countries developed legislation making it illegal to purchase Non-Anonymous Donor semen while others have outlawed the purchase of Anonymous Donor semen. For more information on Anonymous Donors and Non-Anonymous Donors please visit the Donor Sibling Registry at http://donorsiblingregistry.com. This website will allow potential clients to connect with existing parents that purchased both anonymous and non-anonymous donor semen for artificial insemination from any sperm bank worldwide. Cryos NY is not responsible for the quality of information provided by the Donor Sibling Registry. - What does MOT mean?
MOT is the internal system used by Cryos International facilities worldwide to determine the number of motile sperm (sperm that swim in linear and non-linear forward progression). Below you will find the MOT classification according to the number of motile sperm per 0.5 mL straw for either ICI-Unwashed or IUI-Ready specimens: MOT Level | Motile Sperm Count (Per Straw) | MOT5 | 2.5 million to 5 million | MOT10 | 5 million to 9.5 million | MOT20 | 10 million to 15 million | MOT30 | 15 million to 20 million | MOT40 | 20 million to 25 million | MOT50 | +25 million |
- What is CBS®-straws?
CBS® (CryoBioSystem) High Secutity Straws are storage applications specifically designed to safely store biological products in liquid nitrogen and nitrogen vapor. These types of straws can be used to store serum, plasma, buffy-coat and other blood fractions, cell suspension, bacterial or viral strains, gametes (sperm cells), and embryos. The major advantage of this storage application is that it offers close to a 0% contamination factor because the straws are heat-sealed at both ends. The sealing process is performed using a special machine that does not transfer heat to the semen sample. The CBS® High Secutity Straws identify the contents by a specially designed adhesive detailing the type of product (IUI or ICI), donor ID, and ejaculate number as well as a link to the Cryos NY website. This ensures safe storage and prevents tampering with the ID. The CBS® High Secutity Straws are an approved storage application by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and CE-marked as a medical device of human gametes and embryos.
- What is Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI)?
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is the process of artificial insemination where semen is deposited directly into the uterus. IUI treatments are to be performed only be licensed medical professionals. Scientific studies have found IUI treatments to achieve higher pregnancy rates than ICI treatments (as high as 3 to 4 times greater). - What is Vaginal or Cervical Insemination?
Vaginal or Intracervical Insemination (ICI) is the process of artificial insemination where sperm is deposited into the vagina. This type of artificial insemination represents the more traditional manner of intercourse. ICI procedures can be performed at home with the approval of a doctor. - How much sperm should I order?
One of the most important factors in achieving a successful pregnancy using donor semen is the number motile sperm. In every ejaculate that donors contribute, there are living and dead sperm. Among the living sperm, there will be sperm that swim in linear and non-linear forward progression, sperm that are not properly developed (such as two tails and/or two heads), and sperm that swim in non-progressive manners, among others. Cryos NY determines its motile sperm count on the number of linear and non-linear forward progression sperm. Fertility Specialists/Doctors/Clinics in the United States performing Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and/or Intracervical Insemination (ICI) treatments expect to see a range of motile sperm per insemination between 10 million and 20 million using no more than 1.0 mL of donor semen. Based on packaging its specimens in 0.5 mL straws, Cryos NY suggests using the following number of straws per insemination: IUI/ICI Treatments = 2 MOT10 (or higher MOT) Straws IVF Treatments = 2 MOT5 (or higher MOT) Straws
*Cryos NY recommends speaking to your fertility clinic to discuss how many specimens should be purchased per insemination.
Please keep in mind that donors will not always remain a Cryos NY donor. Some donors will discontinue donating because they have moved out of the New York City area, got married, or completed their 1-year commitment with Cryos NY. Therefore, the inventory of specific donor semen may not have a replenishment source. If you are considering having siblings with the same donor, Cryos NY suggests purchasing additional donor semen and having the specimens stored at either Cryos NY or your fertility clinic. According to many fertility specialists, on average it takes 3-4 inseminations to achieve a successful pregnancy. Therefore, if you are considering siblings, Cryos NY suggests purhasing 6-8 straws per desired child. - Should I make a reservation?
After selecting a donor, you may want to consider purchasing additional straws for future inseminations. Donors do not remain donors indefinitely. At times, donor specimens may become depleted given that there is no replenishment source. In other words, donors may discontinue donating sperm because they have moved out of New York City and/or have decided to stop. If you are considering to have more than one child and would like the children to be genetic siblings, Cryos NY suggests purchasing additional specimens and having them stored at Cryos NY or your fertility clinic.
According to fertility specialists in the United States, on average it takes 3-4 inseminations to achieve a pregnancy. Clinics report an average pregnancy rate between 10-40% per insemination. The success rates differ from patient to patient depending on the individual's overall health and fertility, clinic's experience, hormone stimulation, timing of the treatment, sperm preparation method, the quality of sperm, insemination method, etc. Therefore, with respect to the success rates of achieving successful pregnancies, it may be a good idea to purchase additional specimens. Cryos NY suggests speaking to your OB/GYN and/or fertility specialist to discuss how much donor seman should be purchased to achieve a pregnancy. Below you will find Cryos NY's recommendation on how many straws (with respect to MOT classification) are needed to achieve a successful pregnancy: | | MOT5 | MOT10 | MOT20 | MOT30 | MOT40 | MOT50 | # of Straws/Successful Pregnancy | N/A | 12-16 | 6-8 | 4-6 | 3-4 | 3-4 |
*The above figures are based on IUI treatments. ICI treatments may require more straws to achieve pregnancies. *MOT5 specimens are suggested to be used for IVF treatments where high motile sperm counts are not required. *Using a MOT5 specimen is not suggested for IUI/ICI treatments.

- Do you have open ID donors?
Of course, we do. Cryos NY uses the term "Non-Anonymous" to define its Open Identity donors. A Non-Anonymous or Open Identity donor means that any children born of this donors specimen has the option at 18 years of age to find out the identity and contact information of the donor. - What is a Standard?
Given that Cryos NY ships specimens globally, it is imperative that Cryos NY meets the requirements and/or regulations of the countries to whom it ships. Cryos NY uses the term "Standard" to determine if a specimen is available for sale within the specific region. Below you will find the variouis "Standards" for its specimens: STANDARD | REGION | EU | European Countries (Excluding DK & UK) | DK | Denmark | UK | United Kingdom | USA | United States | NYS | New York State |
Any specimens marked with the above "Standards" means that the specimens from the specific donor can be sold and used for artificial insemination within the borders of the region.
- Where can I find a fertility clinic?
There are many reputable fertility clinics worldwide. The best way to search for a reputable clinic within your area is to ask your OB/GYN or physician. Your OB/GYN or physician, if he/she does not perform inseminations themself, would know of plenty of good fertility clinics in your area. If you are unable to ask your OB/GYN or physician about fertility clinics, please contact our sales staff at +1(212) 430-5950. Depending on the country and type of clinic, Cryos NY may be able to refer you to a reputable clinic. - Do you produce ICI-unwashed or IUI-ready specimens?
Yes, Cryos NY produces both ICI-Unwashed and IUI-Ready specimens. An ICI-Unwashed specimen is basically "raw semen" and can only be used for intracervical insemination (ICI) as it contains prostaglandins and bacteria. However, ICI-Unwashed specimens can be washed in the future to create IUI-Ready specimens for use in IUI or IVF treatments. An IUI-Ready specimen has been treated by a gradient centrifugation method where the prostaglandins and bacteria have been removed from the specimen. This type of specimen can be used for intrauterine inseminations (IUI) or IVF. - What are the shipping costs?
